Rembrandt lighting portrait
Dutch artist Rembrandt ( 15 July 1606 – 4 October 1669) is considered to be one of the greatest painters in European history. He was known for his self-portraits. He was a master of the chiaroscuro technique. And he often used this kind of light in his paintings, particularly in his self-portraits.
Rembrandt's portraiture paintings specifically display a very distinct use of natural light. This lighting has evolved into a popular photographic technique known as Rembrandt lighting. Rembrandt lighting is mostly with directional light. This means that the light should be coming from one direction or one source.
Rembrandt lighting will draw the viewer’s attention where the light triangle is from. This is because of the contrast between the dark and the light.
It also adds a mysterious feel to the image.
